Giving Falkirk the tools to keep moving

Whether it’s pupils riding to school, families heading to the park or residents travelling through busy spaces within the community, cycling is an integral part of everyday life in Falkirk, but even the most confident cyclists need a helping hand when the unexpected happens.

With 15 VeloRepair stations already supporting cyclists across the town, Falkirk Council chose to expand its network with another 14 stations, making on-the-go bike maintenance even easier to access for residents.

The project

Following the installation of 15 VeloRepair stations across Falkirk, the council wanted to make bike repair support even more accessible by adding a further 14 stations across the area. The goal was simple: to support active travel, help cycle commuters, enable self-maintenance and enhance public facilities with long-lasting infrastructure that could be maintained and retooled over time.

The Gen 1.5 VeloRepair station was chosen for the project, having already impressed Falkirk Council through existing installations. Its durability and ease of maintenance made it a strong fit for busy public spaces, where everyday reliability matters. Each station was customised in Falkirk Council’s own green colour, complete with the slogan “take the right route”, creating a recognisable and local feel.

Choosing the right locations for the VeloRepair installations was a key part of the project. Working with Bryan Jardine, Transport Planning Officer at Falkirk Council, we visited proposed sites and helped identify the best spots for each station. High schools, leisure centres, parks and other frequently used community spaces were prioritised, making sure the VeloRepair stations were placed where cyclists were already riding and likely to need them most.

Efficiency and quality from start to finish 

With all 14 locations requiring groundworks, careful planning was essential to keep the project running smoothly. Access to schools had to be managed around pupils and day-to-day activity, so our team worked closely with Falkirk Council to plan the works safely and efficiently. With the right RAMS in place, groundworks for the school sites were completed on the same day, helping minimise disruption while keeping the project on track.

That same focus on quality continues long after installation. A five-year maintenance plan has been put in place for Falkirk’s VeloRepair stations, with servicing carried out twice a year to check performance and replace tools or pumps where needed. This helps ensure each station remains reliable, practical and ready to support cyclists across the area for years to come.

The result

Falkirk’s VeloRepair stations are helping make everyday bike maintenance more accessible across the area. With 29 stations now installed in total, cyclists have more places to stop, make quick repairs and continue their journeys with confidence, whether they are commuting, travelling to school or enjoying time in the local parks.

This project has strengthened Falkirk’s active travel infrastructure with a durable, low-maintenance solution designed to deliver long-term value.
