Braehead Primary School

Aim of the project

A parent at a primary school contacted Grease Monkey to enquire about cycle storage for their child at school. There was a lack of weather proofed storage, which consequently meant there were very few children cycling to and from school.

The parent applied for funding through Cycling Scotland to provide four Veloboxes to provide secure cycle parking for 24 bikes. They were successful and the Grease Monkey team were contracted to supply, deliver and install the Veloboxes at the start of 2023.

The Veloboxes were customised in colour to match the primary school’s branding, a service provided by Grease Monkey.

The school welcomed the secure cycle storage with the janitor managing the opening and closing of the units at the start and end of the school day.

The Grease Monkey team were over the moon to hear that the children had really taken to cycling to and from school, so much so that an additional Velobox has been ordered to keep up with demand. A true success story for the school meeting their objective in encouraging more children to cycle; improving their health and decreasing carbon emissions in the area in the process.
